There are plain gold lines round the foot and down the sides of the handle and a dentilated gilt line round the rim. The inside of the saucer has a sprig in the centre encircled by a ribbon about which five sprays of flowers are entwined. (See Documentation, Savill, 1988, III, p. 970-1.) The gobelet Bouillard was first recorded in November 1753 and continued to be made until the 1790s. This example is of the first size with cup height 5.8 to 6.9 cm and saucer diameter 13 to 14.3 cm. Monochrome blue floral decoration on a white ground had been introduced at Vincennes,  and sprays of trailing and twining flowers continued to be popular during the 1760s and 1770s on tableware and items for the toilette. Similar decoration can be seen on a pair of ice-pails of 1767 and a ewer and basin of 1771 in the Royal Collection. In his Catalogue of the collection Sir Geoffrey de Bellaigue noted that overtime payments indicate that three painters made a speciality of this type of decoration: Charles Sioux, Nicolas Catrice, and
