Ecological art

Scope note

Use for 20th-century art genre utilizing natural physical forces, biological organisms and processes, personal performance, or a variety of other media to demonstrate the workings of the earth's ecological systems, illustrate and explain environmental problems, or implement solutions to these problems. For large scale, outdoor works that surround or involve the participation of the viewer and usually incorporate aspects of their sites, use "environmental art."
