Scope note

Use generally to mean belonging to or after the manner of ancient Greece or Rome. Use specifically to refer to those aspects of classical art, particularly the representation of the human figure in ancient sculpture and also the use of ornament in ancient art, when they are used as models of perfection in other periods.
