Scope note

With reference to the military, use for large army units regularly organized with officers and enlisted men, able to conduct major operations independently. Use also to refer to various tactical units devoted to particular services, such as medical, engineering, and communications, or to some branches of the armed forces of various countries, such as the marine corps of the United states and Great Britain.
