Rifling

Scope note

Use for the process of cutting spiral grooves in the surface of a firearm projectile or the bore of a firearm barrel, also for the system of grooves so cut. The grooves impart a spinning motion to the projectile, thus equalizing its balance in flight and stabilizing its trajectory.
