Fulling

Scope note

Finishing process in textile manufacture using controlled shrinkage to produce a thicker, more compact, and firm cloth. In heavily fulled textile, both the structure and the individual component strands are entirely obscured, giving the appearance of felt. For the application of heat, pressure, and moisture to fiber to cause it to mat together, use "felting."
