Pigment processes

Scope note

Photographic processes in which images are formed using pigments rather than silver or other metal. Common pigments included lampblack, watercolor pigments, oil paints, and oil-based inks. The pigments themselves are not light-sensitive; the photochemical action of another transparent agent makes a support bind, attract, or receive pigment.
