Japanese sewing

Scope note

A very strong method of sewing leaves or sections of books using stabbing and side sewing in which the sewing proceeds from one hole (often the center) to the next, then over the head and the tail of the spine. The sewing can also include sewing through the holes and around the back of the book. When complete, the leaves or sections are tied together with a flat knot on the outside. PC
