Use to describe firearms in which, after initial manual or mechanical loading, the process of firing, extraction, ejection, and reloading continues without intermission as long as the trigger is pressed and the supply of ammunition lasts. To describe firearms which reload automatically after firing but require a squeeze of the trigger for each shot, use "semiautomatic."
