Sword knots

Scope note

Loops of leather, ribbon, or cord, with the two ends joined by a knot, tassel, or felt-covered ornament, attached to the hilt of a sword for the user's wrist to pass through, thus securing it if dropped or knocked from the hand. May also be ornamental or serve as an indication of rank.
