Cylinders into which the base of the candle can be inserted to keep it upright, either short to hold only the end of the candle or elongated, in the form of a tube, to hold the major part of a candle, with a lifting device to elevate the candle as it burns. Found on candleholders such as chambersticks and candlesticks, and on sconces and chandeliers.
