Feathers (arrow components)

Scope note

Flat wedge- or fin-shaped appendages fixed to the rear of the shaft of an arrow or dart to enhance the range and accuracy of their flight. They have been made from a number of different materials, typically bird feathers but also parchment, cuir bouilli, wood, and plastic.
