Scope note

Use for public refreshment places with more emphasis on drinking, normally alcoholic beverages, than on eating, and offering a stage show or other type of public entertainment in the main room, but providing no overnight accommodations; use "pubs" for similar facilities, but generally offering no staged entertainment; use "taverns" for establishments offering overnight accommodations as well as food and drink but no staged entertainment.
