Piers (marine landings)

Scope note

Use for structures extending from the shoreline out over water to serve as landing places or recreational or entertainment places, rather than to afford coastal protection. For structures built along or parallel to the shoreline serving as landing, loading, or unloading places for vessels, use "wharves" or "quays."
