Bull's eye lanterns

Scope note

Lanterns fitted with a lens or lenses, sometimes of knobbed or faceted glass to concentrate and intensify light. May be four-sided with lenses on three sides and a handle on the fourth, or have a lens on one side and a handle on the opposite side, or be cylindrical with a hinged door on which the lens or lenses are mounted.
