Fountain lamps

Scope note

Lamps in which the raising of the oil is effected by the pressure of a liquid of greater specific gravity acting through a column of air. Based on an adaptation of Hero's fountain (220 BCE). For lamps employing the bird-fountain principle use "Cardan lamps."
