Burning fluid lamps

Scope note

Lamps with fonts, either of metal or glass, which are high and narrow, generally tapering from top to bottom, and which have one to six diverging wick tubes that extend well beyond the height of the burner. Small metal caps attached by chains are furnished to extinguish the flame and retard evaporation of the volatile fuel (alcohol and redistilled turpentine or camphene).
