Torah binders

Scope note

Textile bands used under Torah mantles to hold the scroll together. Among Ashkenazi Jews, the swaddling cloth used at a circumcision would be cut and sewn into a long strip, embroidered and appropriately inscribed, to be used later as a Torah binder.
