Use for American desks with upright reeded or slatted shutters that cover up the nest of drawers and pigeonholes. Distinct from English "tambour writing tables", which are a modification of the cylinder desk with tambour shutters instead of a curved solid cylinder. Distinct from "rolltop desks" which close by means of a flexible shutter of convex shape composed of horizontal slats of wood.
