Guéridons

Scope note

French term of uncertain derivation denoting decorative candlestands; original type had a circular top and a central standard, often in the form of a Moor, or, as the taste for exoticism increased, of a negress or Indian. In Louis XV and Louis XVI periods guéridons became small movable tables. OCDA
