Large French desks popular in the late Louis XV and the Louis XVI periods with a roll top in the shape of a quarter cylinder. This type was occasionally imitated in other countries, besides France, particularly in Germany and Scandinavia in the last decade of the 18th century and virtually every western country during the 19th and 20th centuries.
