Scope note

Chairs having a seat that is a shaped and contoured plank drilled with sockets on the upper and lower surfaces to anchor the back and undercarriage and having the rear legs and a back that are separate rather than continuous members. The elements of the back are vertical, horizontal, or curved, and spindles may or may not be present. EVANS
