Redingotes (overcoats)

Scope note

Double- or single-breasted three-quarter length or full-length fitted overcoats with flared skirts, sometimes open in the front to reveal garments underneath, usually with large collars and lapels; worn especially by men and women during the 18th and 19th centuries, originally made with short shoulder cape.
