Scope note

Coarse hairnets, often very decorative and used to confine the hair at the back of the neck or in a bun; sometimes attached to the back edge of a hat. For close-fitting netted caps or hairnets usually of gold, silver, silk, or wool thread worn during the 13th through the 16th century, use "cauls (headgear)."
