Scope note

Armored sleeveless jackets used by infantry from the mid-14th century to the beginning of the 17th century, consisting of small rectangular metal plates, overlapping in vertical strips, mounted on a fabric or hide support in parallel rows, the whole being sewn to a quilted jacket which gave the garments their final shape.
