Overshoes consisting of a sole, usually set on bands of iron, often ring-shaped, and fastened over footwear by tie straps, worn to elevate the foot for protection from mud, dirt, or wetness. For footwear with a thick sole usually of wood, but sometimes of leather or cork, use "clogs."
