Fly whisks

Scope note

Implements carried to brush away flies; in a ceremonial context, especially in Africa, also serving as a symbol of high position or authority; usually made of flexible fibers mounted on a handle. For instruments used to kill insects, usually consisting of a flat piece of perforated material or wire mesh attached to a handle, use "fly swatters."
