Movable type

Scope note

Type cast as individual, single-character units, capable of being combined into text, printed, and redistributed and reused. Use especially with regard to its invention, in Europe in the late 15th century and earlier in China and Korea, and in contrast to printing numerous characters and sometimes images from one block.
