Chain shot

Scope note

Cannon shot consisting usually of two balls linked by a length of chain or wire, or sometimes of a single ball with a length of chain attached on opposite sides, used from the 17th to the 19th century to inflict damage on fortifications and most especially on the sails and rigging of ships.
