Rules (measuring devices)

Scope note

Graduated strips, rods, or bars of wood, metal, plastic, or other suitable material designed for measuring or laying out linear dimensions, usually having straight edges, and used primarily in carpentry, building, and other trades requiring dimensional data. For usually ungraduated flat strips designed primarily as guiding tools when drawing straight or curved lines, use "rulers (guiding tools)."
