Monteith

Scope note

Large circular or oval bowls with scalloped rims used to cool inverted wine glasses or punch cups, usually six or more. Often made of silver, but also of earthenware, porcelain, or other metals. Those with detachable, scalloped rims also served as punch bowls. For small vessels that hold one wine glass, use "wine-glass coolers."
