Thistle cups

Scope note

Small cups indigenous to Scotland, with a bell-shaped bowl, the lower part of which is decorated with a calyx-type band of applied lobes giving them the appearance of a thistle; also includes a type of standing cup of which the bowl is in the form of a thistle, made in the 16th century. ILDCS
