Calliopes

Scope note

Organs involving a set of graded whistles operated by steam or compressed air, played by means of a keyboard, pinned cylinder, or paper roll. Producing a great volume of sound, their typical use has been outdoors, such as at circuses, fairgrounds, and on steamboats.
