Fipple flutes

Scope note

Duct flutes having a fipple, a block housed within the mouthpiece. The duct, formed by the space between the surface of the fipple and the inner wall of the mouthpiece, directs the player's breath against the sharp edge of a hole in the wall of the flute below the fipple.
