Irish harps

Scope note

Historic harps of Ireland characterized by brass strings, an outward-curving forepillar, and a resonator hollowed from a single block of willow wood. The term is also used for small, gut-strung harps with a hand-operated device to alter the tuning, developed in the 19th century.
