Scope note

Shawms of the Arab world and areas of Europe and Asia influenced by Islam, taking many regional forms but commonly consisting of a wood pipe with conical bore, seven front fingerholes and one rear thumbhole, a flared bell, and a small reed with a metal pirouette below it.
