Javanese metallophones consisting of thick bronze or iron slabs, usually six or seven but varying regionally, set on top of a wood trough or cradle, often elaborately carved, and struck with hammers of wood or horn. They exist in three sizes, and are important instruments in the Javanese gamelan.
