Scope note

Xylophones of the Manding people of West Africa, having wood keys thinned on the ends and undersides for tuning and with a gourd resonator beneath each; they are played exclusively by male professional musicians, using a rubber-tipped hammer in each hand and often with bells strapped to their wrists.
