Stretchers (conveyances)

Scope note

Use for a variety of conveyances for one person consisting generally of canvas or similar material stretched or laid across a frame for transporting the sick, wounded, or dead. For more elaborate conveyances carried on poles by people or animals, use "litters" if boxlike in form, often enclosed by curtains, or "sedan chairs" if in the form of portable chairs.
