Hansom cabs

Scope note

Use for two-wheeled, one-horse, covered carriages originally having the driver's seat perched high on the roof, later with the seat set high at the rear and generally characterized by high wheels and low-hung bodies with easy front access for two passengers; distinguished from "cabriolets (carriages)" by the location of the driver and the much lower bodies.
