Kashan fritware dish with dodecagonal rim

An image of Islamic pottery. Dish with dodecagonal rim. Unknown potter, probably Kashan, Iran. Flat base and straight sides with a flaring, indented dodecagonal rim. The rim edge is painted in lustre. On the body vertical panels alternate between inscriptions reserved in lustre and palmette cartouche containing stylised lustre birds and scrolls. At the join between body and base a further inscription is painted in lustre. On the roundel a lustre rosette is encircled by split palmettes reserved on a lustred ground incised with scrolls. Lustre palmettes are painted between concentric lines. Glaze runs over the lower body. Buff fritware, mould made, coated in a white glaze painted in brown lustre, height 6.6, cm, width 27.5, cm, diameter, rim, 27.5 cm, diameter, base, 18 cm, circa 1200-1220.
