Fritware coated in a white glaze painted with lustre
Buff fritware, mould made, coated in a white glaze painted in brown lustre.
Shape: flat base and straight sides with a flaring, indented dodecagonal rim
Interior: the rim edge is painted in lustre. On the body vertical panels alternate between inscriptions reserved in lustre and palmette cartouche containing stylised lustre birds and scrolls. At the join between body and base a further inscription is painted in lustre. On the roundel a lustre rosette is encircled by split palmettes reserved on a lustred ground incised with scrolls.
Exterior: lustre palmettes are painted between concentric lines. Glaze runs over the lower body
History note: Purportedly found in the Gurgan area; the father of Major Raymond Ades; Major Raymond Ades; Major Raymond Ades by whom lent to the Fitzwilliam in 1976 the Ades family
Given by the Ades family to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Fitzwilliam Museum.
