In his raised left hand he holds a flame and in his right, a grenade, shown as a sphere with four flames issuing from it. On the ground on the left there is a salamander in a fire, and on the right further back, a small crowd of robed figures and one kneeling before an altar with a flaming sacrifice on it, creating a pall of smoke. In an oval lead with a suspension loop at the top. Muff glass panel, decorated en grisaille with details etched with a needle, height, whole, 24.5 cm, diameter, whole, 18.5 cm, circa 1575-1630. Production Note: The figure was derived from a print by Goltzius, see Illustrated Bartsch, Vol. 3, 1980, Le Feu from The Elements engraved by a student of Goltzius under his direction 'H. Goltzuis execudebat A.o 1586'.
