Limoges cup, with the creation of Adam, by Jean Court dit Vigier

An image of Standing Cup with Cover/Tazza. Master IC (workshop). Court dit Vigier, Jean I (French, workshop, d. 1592). The interior of the cup is decorated with the Creation of Adam. The cover is decorated on the exterior with a central flowerhead surrounded by four leonine masks on curling strapwork, around which is a continuous procession of revelling putti wearing vine wreaths in their hair. The hemispherical bowl of the cup is supported on a vase-shaped knop on top of a bell-shaped circular foot. The low domed cover has a flange round the edge, and a raised central area with a replacement finial in the form of a horizontal metal grotesque mask.Copper, enamelled en grisaille with pink on a black ground. Height, whole, 19.2 cm, height, cup, 15.5 cm, diameter, rim of cup, 17.5 cm, diameter, foot of cup, 10.5 cm, diameter, rim of cover, 19.5 cm, circa 1555- before 1580. Limoges, France. Renaissance.
