Netsuke: katabori: Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove. Gyokkosai, Edo Period (Japanese). The seven sages, one holding a fan, one a book and one an open scroll, all with finely incised and decorated robes gather under the finely carved, tall, tiered bamboo trees. The arrangement forms a natural himotoshi. Ivory, carved, incised and stained, height, whole, 5.0 cm, width, whole, 2.7 cm, circa 1800-1868. Edo Period (1615-1868).
