Description

Netsuke: katabori: Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove. Ivory, carved and stained. Group of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove. The seven sages, one holding a fan, one a book and one an open scroll, all with finely incised and decorated robes gather under the finely carved, tall, tiered bamboo trees. The arrangement forms a natural himotoshi.

History note: H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
