The parts may all be so / far in harmony, as to give a character to the scene; yet / still they may be put together in an unpleasing manner. To / unite them harmoniously is the business of composition(underlined). / On this head we seldom see any exactness in nature(underlined): and / of course we rarely see it in any natural view(underlined). The parts(underlined) of / landscape in nature are inimitably beautiful: but the whole(underlined) / is seldom well put together. Hence arises the great difficul- / ty of painting any view as a portrait(underlined).
