Bust. Terracotta, on circular marble socle. The sitter faces front with his head turned slight towards his right, looking towards the right. He wears a wig with curls at the sides, and a long queue tied with a ribbon. The truncation is semi-circular.

This is a rare example of a self-portrait by a sculptor. It was the model for a marble bust which remained in the possession of the sculptor’s family until 1901, and is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (1998.64).
