Description

Linen whitework sampler embroidered with linen thread in eyelet, double running, hem, stem and counted satin stitch, cut and drawn work with needle weaving and needlepoint lace filling stitches. There is a selvedge at the top and the other three edges are hemmed. The sampler is worked in fifteen horizontal repeating floral and geometric border patterns with one band of thistle, rose and shamrock patterns in very fine needle lace filling stitches with raised and detached details. The lower three bands contain an alphabet and the inscription '1660, ELIZAbeth Potter'.
