Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross and eyelet hole stitch. The sampler comprises 14 horizontal bands which include repeat border patterns, alphabets, crowns and coronets, a row of formal trees separated by flowers, the name 'Henrietta Patterson', the date '1745' and the inscriptions ' Let no mans mind on earthly things be bent/But having food and raiment be content', Some men get riches yet are always poor/Some get no riches yet have all things' and 'Henrietta Patterson Wrought this Sam/pler Anno Domini 1745 in the 6 year of '.
